SHUTTLE RIDES AVAILABLE for AT HIKERS
AT hikers coming into Franklin for re-supply, a good meal, and a soft bed will find getting back to the trail a bit easier than in years past. Besides our Nantahala Hiking Club member shuttlers, Macon County Transit (MCT) runs shuttle buses for hikers. See details below.
APPALACHIAN TRAIL HIKERS in the Franklin, NC area:
- Local shuttles are available to the AT within 15-25 miles of Franklin (such as to Winding Stair Gap, Wayah Gap, Rock Gap or Wallace Gap)
- Club members offer this friendly service and appreciate AT LEAST 6 to 8 hours’ notice. There is no charge.
- When calling for a ride, tell how many hikers in your group that need a ride.
- Dogs may not be allowed by some shuttlers.
MACON COUNTY TRANSIT:
Macon County Transit (MCT) will provide shuttles from February 15 through May, from the downtown Gazebo to and from Winding Stair Gap at 9 a.m., noon, and 3 p.m. on Monday through Friday only. The fee is $3 per person. Call 828-349-2222 (M-F) for possible shuttles to other local destinations.
LONG SHUTTLES (fees apply):
Some drivers are available for long-distance shuttles (such as to or from Springer Mt., Atlanta or Asheville airports or bus depot, & Ga. or Va. sections of the Trail, etc.)
